Whales evolved from small terrestrial ancestors to become fully aquatic species that have achieved the largest body sizes ever. Their life histories and adaptations are extraordinary and unparalleled among animals. They live the longest, perform the deepest and longest dives, and undergo the longest migrations. This course explores the physiology, ecology, and evolution of whales and the ecosystems that sustain ocean giants. Depending on enrollment numbers, a weekly shuttle to Hopkins or mileage reimbursements for qualifying carpools will be provided; terms and conditions apply.
