This elective course is created for medical and physician assistant students who want to expand their knowledge of human anatomy through the understanding of common clinical conditions and their associated surgical treatments. Students will learn the clinical tests involved in confirming the diagnosis of these conditions, the benefits and risks of the surgical procedures and the anatomy affected by the conditions and procedures. Through case discussion, students will improve their diagnostic and surgical skills. The course is scheduled for ten sessions. Each session begins with a short case scenario on a surgical condition presented by the guest surgeon, followed by student discussion and review of the surgical procedure to be performed. The expert faculty will then guide students in performing the surgery on unembalmed or lightly embalmed cadaver specimens. During the surgical procedures, students will be required to discuss the surgical technique and associated anatomy. The class is limited to six students. To register, students are required to complete the following survey by noon on Monday, September SURG 15. During that week, students will be advised of their acceptance.
